Yoga and Ayurveda emphasize the benefits of food as medicine. We are an integral part of nature and hence we cannot separate ourselves from nature. The elements that are present all around us- air, space, fire, earth and water are present in our physical body as well. The 3 Dosha’s- Vata, Pitta and Kapha are what govern all of our body’s responses. Air and space are responsible for movement, earth and water are responsible for nourishment and fire and water are responsible for eliminating what is no longer required by the body. It is when these Dosha’s are out of balance that various illnesses manifest in the body and in our mind that can also lead to chronic illnesses
